Sperry Develops Joint Bar Crack Detection (JBCD) System
October 19, 2011 – Sperry has completed the design, testing and deployment phases of the Company’s new Joint Bar Crack Detection (JBCD) System. The product has been released as the latest valuable new safety tool from Sperry to assist the railroad industry to operate safely and avoid risk.
The JCBD System consists of intricate and integrated camera, lighting and signal processing technologies enabling Sperry’s rail flaw detection vehicles to be used to ensure broken joints are identified. Specifically deployed for continuous welded rail, the new technology leverages the rail flaw detection footprint to provide additional information relative to the health and maintenance of railroad track without increasing the demands for track time.
In addition, the images are captured, reviewed by experts and stored for permanent record providing the railroad with the confidence and knowledge that their maintenance of joint bars is managed to their specific standards.
